Getting on a cruise ship is much like going to hotel but is done in the terminal very similar to the airport check-in area. You have to check in at the desk and hand over your bags. You show your passport and your ticket and give them a credit card. Then you go through security, like an airport. You then climb the gangway steps up to the ship door where they hand you a class of champagne and what you see is the grand staircase (used for emergencies... most people take the elevators... two banks of lifts onboard.)
